Elena Bajo

THE WAY WE WERE
Description: photograph, close up of acrylic painting over found canvas, paper, marker, pencil.
Concept:Encountering the city by wandering through it, Elena Bajo stitches together found debris and formal architectural elements as outdoor installations and then re-assembles them indoors and on the painted surfaces of found canvases discovered in flea markets, re-enacting the memory of the city as a fragmented landscape of dislocated images and unfinished structures. These discontinuities, now unfolded into a series of spatial arrangements may reveal or question alternative systems of social construction. These spatial paintings become prototypes of what she calls “architecture of disorder”, reflecting into the global conditions of our world today and introducing a new formal logic of space and time into the medium of painting and sculpture.
