Greg Santos
For Frisbee 2006, Greg Santos combines a familiar
bumper sticker with an iconic portrait of Picasso to comment on competition
and brand loyalty in the contemporary art world. On countless windows and
truck tailgates across the country, the adolescent half of the comic strip
duo Calvin and Hobbes is seen pissing on everything from rival car manufacturers
to Osama bin Laden. In Santos' work, a mischievous Pablo replaces Calvin and
takes aim at a sampling of modern art stars. The art historical tables are
turned as the elder rebels against the youngsters. In Santos' "Pissing
Contest"(2006), the undisputed father of modern art marks his territory
on the streets around Art Basil Miami Beach.
